For Shannon Martin, serving Port St. Lucie is more than public service — it’s a way to give back to the community she calls home. For more than 20 years, the city has been home to Shannon and her family, and she cares deeply about its quality of life and the people who live here.

A paralegal by profession, Shannon moved to Port St. Lucie with her husband, Aaron, and their two children. Soon after arriving, she began attending City Council and Planning and Zoning meetings to better understand the decisions shaping her new hometown. That interest eventually led her to public service.

Shannon began serving the city in 2010 as the District 3 City Councilmember, later serving as Vice Mayor before becoming Port St. Lucie’s 15th Mayor in 2021. Throughout her time in office she has focused on listening to residents, understanding their concerns and working to address them.

Leadership Focused on People and Results

Shannon believes local government should make a positive difference in residents’ everyday lives. During her time in office, she has supported efforts to strengthen the city’s finances, lower the property tax rate, reduce debt and improve bond ratings.

She has advocated for transportation improvements, including Port St. Lucie Boulevard South, and helped guide the growth of the Southern Grove Jobs Corridor, bringing major employers and quality jobs to the city while expanding its commercial and industrial tax base.

Shannon has also supported parks and recreation, the preservation of green space, the acquisition of the 105-acre Rosser Lakes Preserve and environmental and water-quality initiatives. Public safety remains important to her, including continued support for police officers, facilities, training and technology.

For Shannon, leadership is ultimately about people. She believes residents deserve leaders who listen, communicate openly, respect taxpayer dollars and understand how decisions made at City Hall affect families and neighborhoods. Through Mornings with Mayor Martin, community meetings, speaking events and other forms of communication, she works to stay connected with residents and hear their concerns.

Serving Our Community

Shannon serves on the St. Lucie County Transportation Planning Organization, chairs the St. Lucie County Fire District Board of Commissioners and the Humane Society of St. Lucie County, and serves on the Florida Coast Medical Center Board of Governors. 

At the heart of Shannon’s service is a simple belief: Port St. Lucie is home, and its residents deserve a city government that cares, listens and works hard on their behalf.

When she isn’t serving the community, Shannon enjoys camping, traveling, reading and spending time with family and friends.
