Shannon Martin has proudly served Port St. Lucie since 2010. First as City Councilmember for District 3, then as Vice Mayor (2016–2021), and now as the city’s 15th Mayor, elected in a special election in 2021 and re-elected by a super‑majority in 2022.

A paralegal by profession, Shannon and her husband, Aaron, moved to Port St. Lucie twenty years ago with their two children. Soon after her arrival in PSL, she began attending city council and planning and zoning meetings as she was driven by a desire to help shape a vibrant community.

Leadership in Action

Economic revitalization: During the post‑recession recovery, she led efforts that resulted in 10 consecutive years of millage reductions and significantly reduced city debt thereby strengthening the city’s financial footing which has increased the city’s bond ratings.

Infrastructure development

Mayor Martin has overseen major road projects, including the Crosstown Parkway extension, championed the widening of Port St. Lucie Boulevard South, and multiple key road improvements funded by the half‑cent sales tax.

As mayor, she regularly advocates for road infrastructure improvements and knows it is a top priority for our residents. Whether it’s repairing aging roads, improving traffic flow, or enhancing pedestrian safety, she works closely with city staff, county and state officials, and community stakeholders to secure funding and advance projects that directly impact daily life. “Investing in our roads means investing in our quality of life, economic growth, and public safety.”

Economic growth

Mayor Martin has been directly involved with the development of the Southern Grove Jobs Corridor, attracting major employers like FedEx, Amazon, Accel and Cheney Brothers in record time—compressing a 20‑year forecast into six years. These companies provide quality jobs that pay above the median salary of St. Lucie County which means our residents can live, learn, play and WORK in PSL, thereby contributing back to our local economy. The addition of these economic development partners will play a key role in shifting the tax burden from residential to commercial/industrial.

Quality of Life and Sustainability

As a leader who is dedicated to providing residents with an excellent quality of life, Mayor Martin has pushed for the advancement the 10‑year Parks & Recreation Master Plan, spearheading Woodland Trails Park and Winterlakes Park, as well as being instrumental in the design of Pioneer Park, Torino and Tradition Regional Park. In addition, she continues to advocate for acquiring land for future green spaces and places through our city’s Naturally PSL program. In the last year alone, the city acquired more than 280 acres of land to add to the city’s Naturally PSL Green Spaces and Places Land Bank which was established in 2025. She championed the acquisition of the 105 acre Rosser Lakes Preserve so that it would not turn into more residential development. Water quality projects and our septic to sewer conversion program are also key components to protecting our environment.

Public Safety

Mayor Martin has prioritized keeping Port St. Lucie as Florida’s safest large city, and advocated for the addition of Districts 5 and 6 police districts which are now operational. She was instrumental in the creation of our Police Training Facility which is currently under construction. This important facility will enable our officers to have the training necessary to maintain our safest city status.

She has also championed the creation of the City’s Real Time Operations Center which will monitor and manage traffic conditions across the city to improve roadway efficiency, enhance public safety, and support rapid emergency response. By integrating technology and real-time data, the center will enable Public Works and law enforcement to quickly detect and respond to traffic incidents, coordinate road maintenance, adjust signal timing, and communicate timely information to the public. This collaboration ensures safer streets, reduced congestion, and more efficient use of city resources. Mayor Martin’s leadership has helped maintain low crime rates amid rapid population growth.

Civic Engagement

Mayor Martin actively engages residents regularly through events like “Mornings with Mayor Martin”, monthly e‑newsletters, as well as community forums and events, reflecting her strong commitment to transparency, public involvement in city planning projects and open communication with all residents.

Under her guidance, Port St. Lucie was named a 2025 All‑America City Winner for collaborative civic innovation. She’s spearheaded making Port St. Lucie a sustainable community with smart growth, balanced development, and acquiring and protecting green spaces during unprecedented population expansion.
