For Shannon Martin, serving as Mayor begins with listening to the people who call Port St. Lucie home and understanding the challenges they face every day.
Shannon knows many families are feeling stretched. Groceries, insurance, housing and everyday expenses are taking a bigger share of household budgets. Seniors on fixed incomes and working families are having to make difficult choices.
While city government cannot control the national economy, Shannon believes local government has a responsibility to recognize those pressures, protect taxpayers and carefully manage every dollar entrusted to it.
That approach has helped Port St. Lucie reduce its overall debt by more than 41%, consistently lower the City’s property tax rate for 11 consecutive years, strengthen its bond ratings and continue investing in public safety, roads, parks and infrastructure to reduce traffic congestion.

Shannon and her family have called Port St. Lucie home for twenty years. Her experience in local government has given her a deep understanding of the community, how City government works and what it takes to turn residents’ priorities into results.
She knows the issues facing residents are personal.
Traffic means less time with family. Rising costs put pressure on household budgets. Public safety affects whether families feel secure in their homes and neighborhoods. And rapid growth requires careful planning to protect the quality of life that brought so many people to Port St. Lucie.
Under Shannon’s leadership, the City has made major investments in roads and infrastructure, strengthened public safety, preserved hundreds of acres for parks and green space, and expanded opportunities for good-paying jobs closer to home.
But Shannon knows there is more work to do.
She hears the concerns about affordability and traffic. She understands residents want responsible growth, safe neighborhoods, strong infrastructure and confidence that their tax dollars are being spent wisely.

For me, serving as Mayor has never been about holding an office. It’s about serving the people who call Port St. Lucie home.
I know families are feeling stretched by rising costs. I hear the frustration about traffic and the concerns that come with being one of Florida’s fastest-growing cities. I also know how important it is to feel safe in your neighborhood and confident that your city is planning responsibly for the future.
Those concerns matter to me, and they remain at the heart of my work.
Improving Roads & Reducing Traffic Congestion
Traffic is one of the biggest challenges facing our community, and improving it remains a top priority. We’re investing in major improvements throughout the city, including Port St. Lucie Boulevard South, Tulip and College Park, Floresta Drive, Gatlin/Brighton,Gatlin/Savona, Bayshore Boulevard and the Torino roundabouts. There is more work to do. I will continue pushing for road improvements, better traffic flow and long-term transportation planning that addresses the needs of the people who live here today while preparing responsibly for tomorrow.
Keeping Port St. Lucie Safe
Nothing is more important than the safety of our families and neighborhoods. I have consistently supported our police officers and made sure public safety remains a priority as our population grows. Port St. Lucie has maintained its reputation as one of Florida’s safest large cities, and I am committed to providing our officers with the staffing, training and resources they need to keep it that way.
Protecting Your Tax Dollars
Families have to make careful decisions about their budgets, and I believe City Hall should do the same. Port St. Lucie has lowered its property tax rate for 11 consecutive years, reduced debt and strengthened its financial position while continuing to invest in roads, public safety, parks and other essential services. I will continue working to keep taxes as low as possible while protecting the services residents depend on. By prioritizing smart spending and long-term planning over short-term politics, she’s helped strengthen the city’s financial foundation and support an economy built to last.
Managing Growth Responsibly
Growth has brought opportunity, but it has also brought real challenges. Residents deserve leadership that understands both. My focus is on making sure development contributes its fair share, infrastructure improvements continue, quality jobs are created and we protect the parks, green spaces and quality of life that make Port St. Lucie special.
There Is More Work to Do
I’m proud of what we have accomplished together, but I also know our work isn’t finished. I love this community, and serving its residents is a responsibility I take personally. I will continue listening, showing up, solving problems and working every day to keep Port St. Lucie safe, financially strong and moving in the right direction.
